The popular games console is believed to have already sold over 120 million units worldwide, while the Xbox One has broken the 100 million mark.
And Sony have shown their intention to dominate the UK market ahead of the holiday rush by bringing the price of a 500GB PS4 on par with its Xbox One equivalent.
Both machines are now available for £299.99 in Britain, with Sony allowing for a £50 reduction after overseeing price cuts in both America and Japan.
Mainland Europe, Australia and New Zealand have also seen prices drop, and Sony will be hoping that their variety of bundles can now rival Microsoft’s.
Gamers purchasing an Xbox One can currently get bundles which offer Xbox Live membership as well as a choice of any three games, whereas Sony are looking to push customised consoles with selected titles.
A statement from Sony confirmed their PS4 price-drop, explaining: “Since the launch of PS4 our aim has always been to provide players with the best gaming experiences at the best value, and we’ve been thrilled with the amount of players who have joined our world.
