Sony is confident that PS4 console sales can stay strong over the next 11 months as it expects lifetime shipments will exceed over 60 million units by April 2017.
Sony released its financial results recently and the report shows that the company expects to sell over 20 million PS4 units in the current fsical year. Currently, approximately 40 million PS4 consoles have been shipped worldwide. 2016 will be a big year for the company so a rise in sales is to be expected.
This is all thanks to the arrival of PlayStation NEO which is expected to come out later this year. It’s not going to be an entirely new console, but it’s an optional upgrade in order for games to look and perform better than on the original machine.
Another big hardware device that Sony is releasing in 2016 is the PlayStation VR headset. PlayStation VR is much cheaper than its PC counterparts and is also expected to do really well. VR is a new way for gamers to play video games and could be the future of the industry.
Lastly, Sony has a lot more PS4 exclusives this year. We’ve already had Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End but Gran Turismo Sport and The Last Guardian are out later this year that might help increase PS4 console sales.
