OWC, a leading zero emissions Mac and PC technology company, today announced its new Mercury Pro external optical drive for both PCs and Macs.
The OWC Mercury Pro external optical drive comes in a sleek aluminum casing and comes with high-speed USB 3.0 connectivity for reading writing CDs, DVDs, M-DISC, and/or Blu-ray discs. It offers simple plug and play operation, so you don’t really have to go through a setup process before being able to use the optical drive.
One of the main highlights of the Mercury Pro is M-DISC support. M-DISC is a revolutionary archival-quality storage technology that can protect your data from degradation, making it last as long as 1,000 years or more. This is made possible with the use of a proprietary micro-thin layer made from rock-like material for permanent data storage, offering protection from data rot and extreme light, humidity, and temperature changes.
The drive comes in two configurations – 24X DVD burner and 16x Blu-ray disc burner.
