Up to now, Stardew Valley — a charming and engrossing 2D farming and crafting game patterned after Harvest Moon — has been limited to Windows PCs. Now, thanks to an expanded partnership with publisher Chucklefish, developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone has announced that the promised Mac port is officially underway, as well as console versions, foreign language support, cooperative multiplayer, and official merchandise.
Barone does not specify which consoles Stardew Valley is being ported to, nor does he provide a timetable for when we might see their release. He does, however, acknowledge that his partnership with Chucklefish was done in part so that he might expedite the process.
“I know in the past I’ve been very adamant about doing everything myself… and I still am, when it comes to game design and content,” Barone writes in a community update, wherein he also details content for the PC version’s upcoming 1.1 update. “However, I’ve decided to seek outside help for some of the more technical things listed above. More specifically, I’ve accepted an offer from Chucklefish in which they will handle the porting, localization, and the technical side of multiplayer. This will allow me to focus on creating new game content for version 1.1, which I will continue to do entirely on my own.”
The 1.1 update includes more crops and crafting/farming features, additional spouse candidates, the ability to relocate buildings “and other convenience features,” various bug fixes, and “more secrets.” The update, like the aforementioned ports and multiplayer, also does not currently have a release target.
Stardew Valley recently surpassed 1 million copies sold through Steam, having garnered a dedicated fanbase for its surprisingly deep mining and crafting systems, as well as being endlessly mod-friendly.
